PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for deodorizing a malodorous gas whereby the resistance to gas permeation can be diminished at a reduced cost, the contact time can become markedly shorter than the conventional, the treatment capacity can be improved, the compaction and plugging are little even after a long-term continuous operation, and the maintenance is simple. SOLUTION: A malodorous gas is deodorized by contact with a deodorant essentially consisting of a granulated fly ash fiber and a microbe-containing substance and having an adjusted water content of 40-80%.
