PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for drying a timber/bamboo material capable of simply drying not dried timber/bamboo material such as raw timber, raw bamboo material at a low cost in a short time and capable of providing a dry timber/bamboo material having excellent water repellence, waterproofness, and water resistance even without executing a particular surface treatment or the like after the timber, bamboo material is dried without possibility of generating a deformation of the timber or the bamboo material and capable of being used for various applications as well as a method for manufacturing the dry timber/bamboo material. SOLUTION: The method for drying the timber/bamboo material comprises the steps of heating a liquid having a boiling point higher than that of water at a temperature higher than the boiling point of the water and lower than that of the liquid, dipping the timber or the bamboo material in the heated liquid, and drying the timber or the bamboo. The method for manufacturing the dry timber/bamboo material comprises the steps of dipping the raw timber or the raw bamboo material in the liquid heated to the temperature higher than the boiling point of the water and lower than the boiling point of the liquid as the liquid having a boiling point higher than that of the water, and drying the raw timber or the raw bamboo to obtain the dry timber or bamboo.
