PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method of destroying a calcined material on the liquid level of molten glass by which the calcined material formed on the liquid level of molten glass is surely and rapidly destroyed and removed, and also to provide a device for destroying the calcined material. SOLUTION: A through-hole 17 is formed in a ceiling wall of a glass melting furnace 1 and a rod for destruction 18 is also elevatably inserted into the through hole 17, and when the calcined material S is generated on the liquid level of the molten glass G, the calcined material S is destroyed by descending this rod for destruction 18 and making the tip of the rod collide against the liquid level of the molten glass G. Thus, the calcination material S on the liquid level of the molten glass G can securely and rapidly be destroyed and removed so that disadvantages such as decrease in fluidity caused by abnormal rising of temperature of the molten glass G can be prevented in advance.
