The present invention relates to an apparatus for purification of water. The apparatus comprises a vessel (1) having sidewalls (3) and bottom (2) and a sealed top cover (4) made from transparent glass or plastic and a closeable opening (5) in one of the walls (3) for supply of water. A tank (7) for purified water is connected to the vessel (1) by a suction pipe (8) arranged in the top cover (4) of the vessel (1). A cooling unit (10) for condensing water vapour in air flowing in the suction pipe (8) is arranged about the suction pipe (8) or the tank, and an air return pipe (11) runs from the tank (7) for purified water to the vessel (1).
