The invention is a method and an apparatus (10) for generating vortex rings in a fluid medium. The apparatus (10) is immersed in a body of water, and an air pump feeds gas in the form of air directly into the base (15) of the apparatus (10) through a gas inlet (31) .A nozzle (32) extends from the gas inlet (31) to a pocket (21) located on an underside of the lever (20) .As air is pumped into the pocket (21), the air forms a single bubble, and when the buoyant force of the air mass exceeds the weight of the lever (20), the lever (20) rises and the air mass travels as a cohesive unit to an exit nozzle (23) .When the lever (20) reaches the maximum height displacement defined by a resilient upper stop (41), the air exits the lever (20) through a nozzle (23) and forms a vortex ring. |
