PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a satisfactory image by recovering residual toner on a pressure means by a cleaning means without causing defective cleaning due to the shortage of heating the cleaning means and backflow due to the overheating, in an image heating device 60 provided with a heating means 100, the pressure means 200 as a rotating body which is brought into press contact with the heating means and the cleaning means 13 which comes into contact with the pressure mean, and for holding and carrying a recording material P with an image by a nip part between the heating means and the pressure means so as to heat the image. SOLUTION: The image heating device is provided with a cleaning process of cleaning the pressure means 200 by rotating the heating means 100 for a prescribed time in a state where the cleaning means 13 is heated after the recording material P is discharged outside the device, and the cleaning means heating state at the cleaning process is changed in accordance with the thickness of the recording material P.
