USE OF UMBRAVIRUS IN PROTECTION AGAINST POST-TRANSCRIPTIONAL GENE SILENCING

The use of umbraviral proteins to protect viral vectors or transgenes from post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) is described. Preferably the umbraviral protein is ORF3 and, for example, may be the ORF3 from GRV, PEMV-2, TmoV or CmoMV. Enhancement of expression in a host cell, suitably a plant or insect host cell, of a heterologous protein due to the protective presence of the umbraviral protein is also described.
