An optical axis adjusting device for a front illumination lamp has a drive rod (28) and a motor (29) for moving the drive rod (28) forwardly and backwardly. An optical axis of the lamp is adjusted by forward/backward movement of the drive rod (28). The optical axis adjusting device for a front illumination lamp further has a position detecting sensor (38). The position detecting sensor (38) has a movable element (35) capable of moving in unison with the forward/backward movement of the drive rod (28) and a stator (36) for detecting a forward/backward position of the drive rod (28) by co-acting with the movable element (35).
