PURPOSE: An engine starter is provided to increase the forward/astern power of a pinion gear by additionally installing a vacuum cylinder on a magnetic switch. CONSTITUTION: An engine starter(10) is composed of a motor(1) for generating rotary power, a power transmission unit(2) for transmitting the rotary power to an engine, and a magnetic switch(3) for engaging a ring gear(16) with a pinion gear(12). A vacuum cylinder(30) is operated by the vacuum pressure of a vacuum tank(50) to improve the operational performance of the magnetic switch(3). A piston(31) in the cylinder(30) is connected to a plunger(21) of the magnetic switch(3).
