PURPOSE: A method for protecting a turbocharger of a diesel engine in a vehicle is provided to control the excess pressure control displacement according to the change of the input, output intake air temperature and pressure of a compressor of the turbocharger and change of the turbocharger RPM, so that preventing the surging and choking of the compressor and improving the engine performance. CONSTITUTION: A method for protecting a turbocharger of a diesel engine includes the steps of: initializing all using variables and deciding the satisfaction state of the engine operation condition if the power is applied(S100,S110); setting up the control opening degree of the excess pressure according to the turbocharger RPM(S120); setting up the control opening degree of the excess pressure according to the booster ratio(S140); and controlling the control opening degree of the excess pressure according to the change of the turbocharger RPM(S160).
