PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a translation support service for realizing smooth chat with the other party different in language. SOLUTION: A translation support server device 10 invites a translator (volunteer) capable of translating a message (character string data) for the chat transmitted/received between terminals 14 to 16 used by chat participants different in language into a prescribed language. When a volunteer using a terminal 18 applies for the invitation, the device 10 asks this volunteer to translate the message and obtains the translated message. The device 10 transmits the message translated into the language used by the chat participant using the terminal at a transmission destination to the terminal in stead of the character string data transmitted from a transmission origin.
