OPTICAL FIBER CORD AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cord which lowers surface tackiness while enhancing flame resistance and can prevent an extreme increase in transmission loss and to provide a method for producing the optical fiber cord. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optical fiber cord having a high tensile strength body 2 and a sheath 3 in this order on a coated optical fiber 1 includes a step for forming the high tensile strength body 2 on the coated optical fiber 1, a step for coating the surface of the high tensile strength body 2 with a resin composition containing a base resin and a metal hydroxide and a step for irradiating the resin composition with electron beams at 50-200 keV accelerating voltage to form the sheath 3 on the high tensile strength body 2. Since the sheath has enhanced flame resistance and lowered surface tackiness, the optical fiber cord has high flame resistance and ensures easy wiring work. The cord can prevent an extreme increase in transmission loss.
