PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new anti-active oxygen agent capable of inhibiting active oxygen specifies generation, also having high safety and producible relatively at low cost. SOLUTION: This new anti-active oxygen agent comprises an amino acid derivative of the general formula (I) [wherein, Ar is 2-hydroxyphenyl, 2- hydroxy-1-naphthyl or pyridyl, in this case, the hydrogen atom(s) bound to the aromatic ring of each of the above groups may be substituted with halogen atom(s), alkyl, hydroxy, hydroxyalkyl, nitro, alkoxy or carboxy group(s); R is an amino acid side chain; X is -CH2-NH- or -CH=N-; Y is H, -COOR1, -SO3H, -CON(R2)R3, -CONHCH(R5)COOR4 or -CH2OH (wherein, R1 to R4 are each H or an alkyl; and R5 is an amino acid side chain); and n is an integer of 0 or 1] or a salt thereof as the active ingredient.
