Interactive television system including a profile server controlled by a provider having mainly advertisement multimedia contents, broadcast via VBI channel (Vertical Blanking Interval) to a plurality of users differently located over the territory and additionally connected to the profile server via modem on telephone 2-wire loop. Each user has a DATA COLLECTOR (set-top box) connected to the household television set to receive and decode the Teletext signal sent by the provider; including also a full-duplex modem connected to the PSTN network. The interactions made by each user, through remote control, on the service contents that can be enjoyed on the TV screen are stored and sent during the night to the profile server, where they are processed for the updating of a user individual profile. Also during the night, the updated profiles are re-transmitted to the users, who employ them to filter the contents received on the VBI channel. The DATA COLLECTOR includes a telephone interface connected to the microprocessor governing the tuning of the channel and the main functions of the DATA COLLECTOR. The telephone interface includes a handset off hook detector. When the user lifts the handset, the off hook detector starts (if enabled) the tuning on the channel of the provider in Teletext mode, and the advertisement contents begin scrolling on the TV screen. Randomly, gliding golden tokens appear on the screen and these can be captured with the remote control to acquire free minutes of telephone conversation (fig.2) <IMAGE>
