摘要 PURPOSE: A reflective type fringe field switching mode liquid crystal display is provided to realize perfect dark even in various light wavelength bands, reduce effective phase retardation, and improve contrast ratio. CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower substrates face each other, having a predetermined distance between the two substrates(50,30). A liquid crystal layer(40) is interposed between the upper and lower substrates and contains a plurality of liquid crystal molecules(40a). A counter electrode is formed on the lower substrate. A pixel electrode(36) generates a fringe field together with the counter electrode to drive most of the liquid crystal molecules. A horizontal alignment film(38) is interposed between the lower substrate and the liquid crystal layer and has a predetermined rubbing axis. A vertical alignment film(52) is formed between the upper substrate and the liquid crystal layer. A polarizer(55) is arranged on the outer side of the upper substrate and has a predetermined polarizer axis. A reflector is arranged on the lower substrate and reflects lights inputted through the upper substrate.
