PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot water heater with a purifying function wherein valve failure due to contamination components such as those of adhered and deposited dirt and hair adhered to and deposited on a drain two-way valve is reduced upon reverse cleaning. SOLUTION: There are provided a purifying tank 4 where part of a hot water injection circuit D for injecting hot water into a bathtub is piped to purify contamination of bathtub water with a filtrating member 5, a pump 3 for circulating bathtub hot water to the purifying tank, changeover valves 6, 7, 8, and 9 for changing over the circuit to a bathtub water purifying circuit A where a fluid is flown from an upper of the filtrating member to a lower portion of the same and a reverse washing and cleaning water circuit B where upon reverse washing and cleaning for washing the filtrating member a fluid is flown from a lower portion of the filtrating member toward an upper portion of the same, and control means for controlling the changeover of the respective changeover valves. The control means controls the changeover of the respective changeover valves such that the drain changeover valve 8 located downstream the purifying tank upon reverse washing can be washed with the bathtub water or supply water after the reverse washing. Hereby, valve failure of the drain changeover valve is sharply reduced.
