PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which operational reliability of a capping means can be enhanced by suppressing the quantity of ink scattering from a cleaning member and cleaning capacity can be enhanced. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises a cleaning member 19 disposed retractably in the vicinity of the moving passage of a recording head H in order to wipe off the nozzle forming face h, and a capping means disposed in the vicinity of the cleaner in order to suck and discharge ink from the recording head H by sealing the nozzle forming face h wherein the cleaning member 19 is formed of a resilient material projecting to the surface F on the nonprinting region side and having ink guides 31a-31c extending in the vertical direction.
