The protected check valve is involved in the physical separation of two flowable media by means of a gas medium when one fluid passes through the check valve, with an inflow aperture (1) in the top of a closed space (2) which has an outflow aperture (3) in the underside. The fluid passes inwards through a feed conduit and past a closure unit (4), which is closed by the operation of a floater (5) located in the closed space. The pressure on the entering flluid is displaced towards the interior of the space when, as the resullt of the rising of the fluid level, the gas in the same space is compressed to the same pressure. The closure unit in the upper part of the space does ot therefore etner into effect. It enters into effect if the fluid level rises further and closes on account of the operation of the floater.
