PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing device and a reproducing method which do not have sense of incongruity in performing scroll display. SOLUTION: This reproducing device comprises a CPU 6 which reads compressed data from a dictionary ROM 1, erases continuous scrolls in the same direction from an SRAM 3 when scroll instructions in the same direction are continuously stored in the SRAM 3 surpassing the prescribed number of scroll instructions while data read by an expansion block 2 is expanded to be restored to the original data and a prescribed part of the restored data is controlled to be displayed on an LCD 9, and also display a data amount by scrolling, which is more than a data amount that is subjected to scrolling of data displayed on the LCD 9 by a single scroll instruction and an LCD controller 7. Therefore, united line spacing instructions are processed as a page ejection instruction, and line spacing and page ejection are smoothly performed by eliminating the sense of incongruity of the line spacing.
