A rectangular measurement tube (1) has ultrasonic transmitter/receiver transducers (4) in one narrow side. The sound beam is directed at a flat angle at the focal point of the transducers, a point in an ellipsoidal depression in the reflection surface (7). The transducers are partially sunk in the tube wall and in that wall a protuberance (10) is located centrally between them. The wide side of the tube is provided with a scatter or absorbing surface.
