The characteristics measuring method has individual parameters of the measured sample (10) altered in a defined manner, with production of at least one measuring signal (20,20A,20B) dependent on at least one parameter of the sample, received by a detector (22). The measuring signals are modulated before detection using defined modulation parameters, with subsequent integration and analysis for determining the sample parameters. An Independent claim for a sample characteristics measuring device is also included.
