Method has the following steps: determination of actual example sheet position within a reference coordinate system (1), movement past the design position of the sheet that is to be aligned on the surface (9) of a carrying cylinder (7), so that if the position of the sheet is incorrect, the cylinder and its components (8, 16) are realigned using contactless radial and azimuthal magnetic bearings (11, 12). The set position of the cylinder is maintained until the sheet moves onto the next transport component. Independent claims are made for a method of aligning a printing formed cylinder or print image transfer cylinder, a device for aligning print images in printers, and for printing machinery for aligning flat examples with sheet processing machinery or multiple ink rotating print machinery.
