<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a milling machine of gantry structure guaranteeing good access to a tool machining point and discharging chips well. SOLUTION: This portal milling machine has a bench 10 in an X-direction 2 (the longitudinal direction of the machine), and a gantry 20 in a Y-direction 4 extending perpendicularly to the X-direction. Milling unit 50 is arranged at the gantry 20 translationally in a first direction orthogonal to the X-direction 2 and in a second direction. A carriage 30 piercing the gantry, carrying a workpiece chuck 32 and movable in the X-direction 2 is arranged at the bench 10. The bench 10 is arranged being shifted to the vertical edge part of the gantry 20 in the Y-direction 4 so that the angle surrounded by a region between a part of the projecting bench and the gantry 20 guarantees good access to the working region of the machine in the center part region of the gantry from another vertical edge of the gantry 20.</p> |
