The inventive method for maintaining the identity of a pair of interacting hierarchical augmented databases consists in the following: one interacting database of the pair being augmented, each element augmenting any level of said data base to any address is transferred to the same address on the same level of the other data base. A hierarchical communication network for transferring compressed information is composed of local networks of various levels which are interconnected with the aid of multiport coupled cross-points provided with an internal bus. Said communication network is characterised in that each subscriber of any local network is provided with a multiple-level coding program for a transmitted message, a multiple-level decoding program for the message received through the communication network and a program for augmenting the hierarchical database formed on the subscriber's site. The address of a sending subscriber is included in the data portion of the transmitted coded message.
