The method for fixing metal foam against a metal bowl surface (2) involves a layer of metal foam (1) compressed in a predetermined number of areas (4), so that its thickness is reduced in those areas. The layer is fixed by welding points (3) in the areas. Compression occurs so that a main part of the ligaments in the metal foam remain unbroken. The compressed area exceeds the size of a welding point. Compression occurs from the side of the metal foam which is fixed against the bowl surface. Small raised formations are formed on the bowl surface which correspond to the compressed area in the metal foam layer.
