PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine that can cope with change of a name of a receiver terminal under an environment where an abbreviated protocol is available and display a name of a newest receiver terminal and print out a report at a transmitter side. SOLUTION: The receiver sets an update recording leading to a name storage memory of a name of its own terminal to receiver capability information generated on the basis of a setting state of its own terminal. When the name of the receiver terminal is changed, a CRC code generated by the receiver does not coincide with a CRC code sent from the transmitter and a usual protocol is executed. The name of the terminal after change and update is transmitted to the transmitter according to the usual protocol, and then the transmitter side can display the newest terminal name and print out a report after the operation of registration.
