<p>A stenophiluric media is provided containing at least one bio-limiting agent such as a copper, tin, nickel or alloy thereof. The media may be formed of a polymer such as a thermoplastic polymer. The polymer may be an epoxy resin, a polyester resin, a polyurethane resin or an aminoplast resin. The media may also be formed of an amalgam of naturally occuring tars and resins. In an embodiment, the polymer is a crosslinked polyepoxide prepared from an epoxy resin and a polyamine crosslinking agent. The media may also contain a nutrient source. The media is used to prevent fouling by applying a coating of the media to a substrate such as a the hull of a boat or ship, a culvert or piping or a surface in a fermentation vessel, and allowing a selected biomass to form on the media. The selected biomass produces allelopathic chemicals that prevent attachment of higher animals.</p> |
