PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature-controlling means being simple, without operation load for operators and enabling stable control of a reaction temperature, by following the change of a temperature distribution of a vapor phase oxidation reaction system in which hydrocarbons react with oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for controlling a vapor phase oxidation system is characterized by detecting temperature at plural measuring points in the reaction apparatus, calculating representative temperatures by prescribed operations from detected temperatures at plural measuring points and controlling reaction temperature in the reaction apparatus to a desired value based on the calculated representative temperature, in the method for control of the vapor phase oxidation system having the reaction apparatus for carrying out vapor phase oxidation reaction treatment and a separation apparatus for separating or removing a reaction product, by-products and unnecessary components discharged from the reaction apparatus.
