PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing at a high productivity a styrene resin which has an improved processability, process stability and mechanical characteristics and contains an extremely small quantity of elusive or volatile matters due to a low content of low molecular components. SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing the styrene resin containing a small quantity of low molecular components comprises a continuous anion polymerization process in which raw materials having a composition (A) comprising 1.0 kg styrene monomer, 0.1-3 kg hydrocarbon solvent and 0.5-200 mmol organic lithium compound are continuously fed collectively or separately through one side of a reaction tank R1 having a back-mixing flow and a product is continuously taken out through the other side of the reaction tank R1. The internal temperature of the reaction tank R1 is controlled in a range of 40-120 deg.C. An average percentage of a styrene monomer to a total of the monomer, hydrocarbon solvent and a styrene polymer in the tank R1 is controlled to less than 10 wt.%. A styrene polymer solution thus obtained is evaporated and dried. |
