PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective falling object projected area and volume discriminating device computing a projected area or a volume of a workpiece having a non-fixed form and moving in the air without any contact so as to find the dimension of the workpiece. SOLUTION: By means of a non-contact type sensor 4, a projected area viewed in the direction (a) crossing the falling direction of the workpiece 2 falling in the air is found at a fixed time interval, and the overall projected area of the workpiece 2 is computed by adding up the projected areas.
