PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quickly and accurately determining the total amount of carbon from a thermal decomposition product obtained when heating an organic matter adhering to the surface of a gold wire at a high temperature. SOLUTION: Using a thermal decomposition gas chromatograph device, the organic matter adhering to the gold wire is thermally decomposed at a specific temperature in an inactive gas atmosphere, and the total amount of carbon is determined from generated methane and ethylene.
