PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method by which cracks of components of a nuclear reactor are welded without stopping the reactor. SOLUTION: In the metal welding method, cracks to be welded are surrounded by flux in an essentially anhydrous environment and are welded. The flux functions as a backing during welding operation, then the welding is performed without the purge of an inert gas or a metallic backing plate arranged in advance on a weld zone.
