PURPOSE: An oil pump is provided to minimize power loss of pump by suppressing pumping of unnecessary relief oil through the automated adjustment between the lateral gap between the drive rotor and slave rotor. CONSTITUTION: An oil pump(1) comprises a pump chamber(7) constituted by a pump housing(3) and a pump cover(5); a drive rotor(9) and a slave rotor(11) which are engaged with each other and rotated by the power transmitted from an engine through a drive gear(13) connected to the drive rotor so as to suck an oil from an inlet port and discharge the oil through an outlet port; and a volume varying unit interposed between the pump cover and drive and slave rotors so as to vary the volume of the pump chamber in accordance with the discharge pressure. The volume varying unit includes a back disk(19) inserted into the pump cover, and which has a cut surface formed at the discharge side corresponding to drive and slave rotors so as to allow a discharge pressure to act on the cut surface; a plurality of guide rods(21) inserted into a guide groove(23) formed at the pump cover; and a spring(25) inserted into the guide rod arranged at the center of the rear surface of the back disk, from among the plurality of guide rods, and which has an end being supported by a pump cover and provides an elastic force to the back disk.
