PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monofilament for mowing machine, made of a biodegradable resin, having sharp cutting quality when used as a rotary blade of the mowing machine, having both mechanical strength and durability sufficiently applicable to practical use, and further excellent in processability. SOLUTION: This monofilament for the mowing machine is mainly made of the biodegradable resin (A), wherein the biodegradable resin (A) consists mainly of an aliphatic polyester (B). The aliphatic polyester (B) preferably comprises a polylactate-based polymer composed mainly of a lactic acid component. The biodegradable resin (A) preferably comprises a mixture of the aliphatic polyester (B) and a plasticizer (C), and more preferably comprises a graft polymer obtained by subjecting the mixture of the aliphatic polyester (B) and the plasticizer (C) to crosslinking. The monofilament preferably contains the plasticizer (C) in an amount of 5-40 wt.%. The biodegradable resin (A) preferably comprises a mixture containing a filler component (D). The filler component (D) preferably comprises a fibrous filler having an aspect ratio of >=5, and more preferably comprises the fibrous filler having the aspect ratio of >=5 and being subjected to surface treatment with a silane-coupling agent.
