PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable nip width even when the thickness of printing paper is changed in a fixing device provided with a fixing roller and a sheet type pressurizing member. SOLUTION: In this fixing device, a latent image formed on a photoreceptor by an electrophotographic system is made a toner image and transferred to the paper, and the transferred toner image is fixed. The device is equipped with the rotating fixing roller 21 having a heater 22, a sheet type member 23 abutting on the roller 21 and forming a nip part, a sheet supporting material 27 cantilevering and supporting the member 23, and an escape preventing member 30 regulating the position of the free end of the member 23 so that the free end of the member 23 may not be lower than a specified position. Then, the downward movement of the free end of the member 23 is regulated by the member 30 when the paper passes through the nip part.
