PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a luminance signal from errors within the range of present system by effectively utilizing unused bits. SOLUTION: In a MPEG video system, video data Y, Cb, Cr, and Cr are 8 bits per pixel and low-order 2 bits are not used. Among 10 bits of one pixel in a Y signal, 4 bits BB, low-order 2 bits×2 in a transmitted word are used to high-order 4 bits BA, and the low-order 4 bits BB is set as a parity bit for the high-order 4 bits BA, so that a (8, 4) Hamming code is generated. Thus, an error of one bit can be corrected in the high-order 4 bits of the Y signal having a large influence, and while utilizing effectively an unused low-order bit, the Y signal can be protected from an error.
|
