PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a magnetic disk drive device thin. SOLUTION: The supporting structure of a magnetic head to support the magnetic head 11 for recording or reproducing a signal on or from a magnetic disk 14, has a base plate 15 whose tip part 15a is provided freely movably between the center of the rotation part of the magnetic disk and the outer side of a peripheral edge when viewed from a plane, a pivot spring 25 provided on the base plate, whose tip part presses the magnetic head to elastically contact it with the magnetic disk, and a contact/uncontact means 29 to load/unload the magnetic head with respect to the magnetic disk by acting the pivot spring with the moving of the base plate, and thereby, pressing or releasing the pivot spring with respect to the magnetic head. When the contact/uncontact means acts on the pivot spring to cancel the pressure applied to the magnetic head and to separate the magnetic head from the magnetic disk, the base plate is flexed and then the tip part is deflected in a direction to move away from the magnetic disk.
