The covering strip (12) consists of a mechanical supporting layer (18), especially of a textile material, with a contact layer (20) gripped by the user, and incorporates a shock absorbing layer (22), preferably 1-2 mm thick, on the opposite side of the supporting layer to the contact layer and fastened to it by adhesive. The overall thickness of the strip is preferably 1.45-2.75 mm.
