Installation frame is supported by bottom edge of access opening (44) in wall (43) of elevator shaft (40) at one side and by opposing inside wall (42) of elevator shaft at the opposite side. Pivot mechanism is provided at top of access opening for movement of installation frame between stowed position in which it lies against wall of elevator shaft and working position in which it extends across elevator shaft. An Independent claim for a method for installing an installation frame in an elevator shaft is also included.
