PURPOSE: A power-saving outlet and a method of automatically controlling ON/OFF of the outlet are provided to automatically turn off the power of the outlet when any person is not detected around the outlet for a predetermined period of time. CONSTITUTION: A power-saving outlet includes an output main body(10), and a sensor(30) connected to a microcomputer(20) contained in the outlet main body to sense a person within a predetermined distance from the outlet main body. The outlet further has a timer(40) connected to the microcomputer to count a set time from the point of time at which any person is not sensed around the outlet, and a switch(50) connected to the microcomputer to automatically turn on the power of the outlet when any person is not sensed within the predetermined distance for the set time.
