PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling the curvature of a strip are provided which control positions of a stabilizing roll so as to improve quality of plating by controlling the curvature of the strip that is dipped into and taken out of a plating bath in a hot dip galvanizing line. CONSTITUTION: In a curvature control apparatus which is equipped with a sink roll(5) changing a proceeding direction of a strip(1) dipped into a galvanizing bath and a stabilizing roll(7f) applying a pressure to the strip(1) passing through the sink roll(5) in a hot dip galvanizing line, and which controls curvatures generated by the sink roll(5), the apparatus for controlling the curvature of a strip by the position controlling of a stabilizing roll comprises roll transfer means(21,23,25) transferring the stabilizing roll(7f) along a direction where the strip(1) is positioned; curvature measuring means(11a-11c,13,15) measuring curvatures of the strip(1) that is taken out of the galvanizing bath; and a control part(15) calculating a transfer distance of the stabilizing roll(7f) so as to apply to the strip(1) pressing forces of stabilizing roll(7f) corresponding to curvature measured values measured by the curvature measuring means(11a-11c,13,15), wherein curvatures of the strip(1) are controlled since curvatures of the strip(1) formed by the sink roll(5) and curvatures formed by the pressing forces of the stabilizing roll(7f) are countervailed each other.
