PURPOSE: An arrester apparatus to prevent damage of the surge absorber, while preventing erroneous operation of the device by reducing the surge current flowing from the breakdown voltage of the surge absorber toward the ground. CONSTITUTION: A surge protection circuit comprises a reactor constituted by winding low frequency choke coils(L1,L2) at the same turns in the same direction at a single iron core; an inductor having an input terminal and an output terminal connected to the circuit side and device side, respectively; and thyristors(A1,A2), functioning as a surge absorber, for interconnecting device side terminals(T2,T4) of the choke coils and a ground(G). The surge current flowing through thyristors is in inverse proportion to the reactance value of the choke coils, to thereby prevent damage of the surge absorber and protect the connected device.
