The evaporation chamber, having a feed port (4) for the respiratory gas and an inlet (9) for water vapour to humidify it, consists of a hollow body (1) with an annular inner surface (5) and a tangential feed port at the top, and the vapour inlet situated between it and an outlet (6) at the bottom. The chamber has two temperature sensors (11, 12), one in the gas feed duct (3) on a level with or below the vapour inlet and the other in an outlet channel (8), protected by a condensate shield (13).
