PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording apparatus which can greatly shorten a recording time for forming and recording a plurality of images. SOLUTION: This ink jet recording apparatus includes a plurality of recording medium supply means 1A and 1B for supplying recording media, a plurality of transfer paths for transferring recording media supplied from the recording medium supply means 1A and 1B respectively, a transfer means 2 which has recording medium supply-controlling means 11A and 11B set on the transfer paths for selectively controlling whether to supply the recording media to the transfer paths and which transfers a plurality of recording media concurrently, and a recording means 3 which scans over the plurality of recording media 10A and 10B along a direction nearly orthogonal to a transfer direction for the recording media 10A and 10B and executes recording by jetting ink. Only the recording media to be recorded are supplied to the transfer paths, and recorded by the recording means 3.
