The laser welding joins sections tube (2a,2b) to form a pipeline, using multiple laser beams (6) transmitted by optic fibers (7) to one or more focusing heads (9), mounted on a mobile carriage running alongside the pipe. An electric generator (3) is mounted on a vehicle (4) which runs alongside the pipe. The laser source is also mounted on the vehicle, or can be on a separate vehicle.
