PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture communication apparatus which has an automatic attenuation control means for the transmit signal level according to the ITU-T Recommendation V. 34, and never falls into any communication error in the case of much communication error occurring with a specified signal in a line probing transmission or a line probing reception. SOLUTION: The picture communication apparatus performs an automatic attenuation control for the transmit signal level effective in the case of much communication errors occurring with a specified signal in a line probing transmission or a line probing reception.
