PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly pureα-olefin mixture containing linearα-olefins in a high concentration by using a zirconium complex catalyst having a high catalytic activity. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing anα-olefin mixture comprising oligomerizing ethylene by the use of a zirconium complex catalyst comprising a zirconium halide represented by the formula: ZrX1nX24-n (wherein X1 and X2 are each chlorine, bromine, iodine, or fluorine; and (n) is an integer of 0-4) and an organoaluminum compound, wherein the zirconium halide used has a mean particle diameter of 40μm or smaller.
