PURPOSE: A recording method for a high-density optical recording system is provided to vary a power level according to the size of a mark for input NRZI data to record data optimally. CONSTITUTION: A read power level, a write power level and an erase power level are combined to form a write pulse waveform composed of a first pulse, a multi-pulse and the last pulse, and NRZI data composed of marks is written according to the write pulse waveform. The power levels are varied according to the size of the marks, and the write waveform of the NRZI data is controlled according to the varied levels. The data is written in such a manner that the power level for the shortest mark is distinguished from the power level for other marks.
