A technique for converting contents properly according to the information contained therein. An information processing system for converting first document information described in a first structured tag language into second document information described in a second structured tag language usable at a terminal device. The information processing system comprises conversion means for extracting part of the first document information in response to a demand from the terminal device and converting the extracted information individually into the second document information. When information of a table structure is contained in the first document information, the conversion means makes conversion into the second document information based on the table constructing elements of information individually. When information of a tree structure is contained in the first document information, on the other hand, the conversion means makes conversion into the second document information based on elements of information corresponding to the nodes individually.
