PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a stepping motor for carriage in which the current value being imparted to the stepping motor for carriage can be controlled effectively at the time of dynamic division printing and noise reduction and energy saving of the motor can be realized. SOLUTION: Absolute value J of difference between the division numbers N, M of a current recording line and an immediately preceding recording line is determined and the current value being imparted to the stepping motor for carriage is increased as the absolute value J of difference increases.
